The Doors of Ambiguity

I use photography as a way of exploring myself and expressing myself by capturing and conveying intimate thoughts and emotions that I usually hide. Photography is a way of showing people how I feel and my views on society, culture, and life. I enjoy making art that can be ambiguous and interpreted in different ways depending on the background of the viewer. For this project I was inspired by a previous photo project about ambiguity and wanted to expand and explore the idea to see what I could learn from it. The pictures address and represent the question “What questions do you have, big or small, that you do not have the answer for?” I have posed this question to other people and tailored the images I take to their responses and how best to represent them. The images symbolize opening doors to the unknown and to different choices. A door doesn’t just have to be a physical door, a door is a gateway to a new possibility. Photography is my door through which I express myself. The world beyond the door may be reality or fantasy, the images present the idea of another opportunity; are the subjects going to go through the door? Will the door lead to a better or more fulfilling life? What are they going to miss by closing the door? What is the world behind the door? What questions could that world answer? What answers could that world question?

Are you going to go through the door?
